Member of the Steering Committee of the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP) chaired by Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen, a network 350 international scholars, since 2014.


Head, European and International Affairs at Alliance Athena (French Alliance for the Social Sciences and the Humanities), since 2012.


Among other academic responsibilities, member of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Feltrinelli (Milan, Italy), of the Institute for Advanced Study in Humanities (Edinburgh, United Kingdom), of the Center for Advanced Study – Southern and Eastern Europe (Rijeka, Croatia) and of the Austrian Presidential Conference for Social Sciences and Humanities (Vienna, November 2018).


He has been Director of Institute for Global Studies in Paris and coordinator of the EURIAS international fellowship programme co-funded by the European Commission as Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (350 fellowships in 20 institutes on Europe over the 2010-2019 period).


Over the past years, consultant for the International Development Research Center (Canada), for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (Paris), for the European Commission (COST and Horizon 2020) and a co-founder of the France@MIT Foundation (Cambridge, MA) and the Nuovi Mecenati Foundation (Italy).


Co-editor and co-author of “Europe’s Crises” with Manuel Castells, John Thompson et al. (Polity Press, 2018) and of “Manifesto for Social Progress – Ideas for a Better Society” with Marc Fleurbaey, Helga Nowotny et al. (Cambridge University Press, 2018). Co-editor of « Rethinking Societies for the 21st Century » (Cambridge University Press, 2018).


Economist (Ph.D EHESS and SciencesPo), he has been a full-time researcher at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (1989-1997) with many international publications for the OECD and a cultural and scientific counsellor for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the United States and in Italy (1997-2006).
